President's Message

A warm welcome from Durham Region Law Association

On behalf of the Durham Region Law Association, we appreciate your visit to your website. Our not-for-profit Association was founded in 1879 and has been in existence for 144 years. Our membership has a thriving community of over 490 lawyers, articling students, and law students (from accredited law schools) from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.  We are a multi-faceted community from Kingston to Hamilton and all places in between working collectively toward social justice.

Durham Region law library is an Area library for the Central East Region of Ontario. It is named after Terence V. Kelly and located on the main floor of the Lt. Col. Samuel Sharpe D.S.O., M.P. Courthouse in downtown Oshawa. Our team of Librarians work collaboratively to provide many services to our community including collection development, circulation, reference and research support. We have over 3000 books, electronic resources, monographs and bound legal services. We are the only courthouse library with a special feature of a non-fiction lending library. You can find both collections here.

Our Association is committed to offering its members legal education, mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities to name but a few advantages. In the spirit of collegiality amongst the membership the Association also hosts several social events which include our Annual Member Appreciation Luncheons, Annual Golf Tournament, Meet and Greet social events, Judges' Dinners and our Spring AGM. The Durham Region Law Association publishes our newsletter the DurLAW Voice, which is membership driven, three times a year. The Voice is a voice to our members on a variety of legal topics. Our Mentorship Program is one of a kind offering support to your newly called lawyers.

On behalf of myself, our Directors and Librarians, we thank you for visiting. We invite you to reach out to our Librarians and consider a membership with the Durham Region Law Association!
